Homage to Haiti

The Haitian Revolution, which began in 1791, was one of the greatest revolutions of the 18th Century, contributing to movements to abolish the slave trade and colonial slavery. It resulted in the birth of the Republic of Haiti on January 1, 1804.
The ceremony of the National Day of Remembrance of the Slave Trade, Slavery and the Abolition of Both is a homage to the Republic of Haiti.
This event is also an opportunity to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the UNESCO’s Slave Route Project. May 10 was the culmination of a program of meetings, exhibitions, animations and shows, which lasted from May 6 to 23, 2014.
