Auditorium of the \u00c9cole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure of Architecture of Nantes<\/strong><\/p>\n

These events united architects and artists who designed and carried out projects with a dual message\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Remember\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0Ensure that this does not happen again\u00a0\u00bb.
\nThe purpose of this architecture of memory was to symbolically engrave the memory of this crime into public space and to provoke collective thinking about difficult questions: How was this crime possible? What is our responsibility? How can we avoid the Memorial becoming a static space\u00a0?
\nKrzysztof Wodiczko and Julian Bonder (Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery, Nantes), Janina Masojada and Andrew Makin (Constitution Hill, Johannesburg), Jacques Fredj (Memorial of the Shoah, Paris), Thierry l\u2019\u00c9tang and Pascal Berthelot (Centre Carib\u00e9en d’Expression des M\u00e9moires de la Traite et de l\u2019Esclavage), Sylvie Glissant and Lo\u00efc Cery (Virtual Memorial of the Institute of the Whole World), Crispin Gr\u00e9goire (Permanent Memorial in homage to the victims of slavery and the transatlantic trade at the UN the head office in New York), Laurent Val\u00e8re (M\u00e9morial Cap 110, Martinique), Serge Romana (Itinerant Memorial of the Names of Abolition – CM98, France), Joel Pham (www.travailleurs-indochinois.org), Anne Thomas (Stolpersteine Project by the artist G\u00fcnter Demnig), Nicola Lo Calzo (CHAM, Memory and Heritage of the slave trade and slavery), Lam L\u00ea (C\u00f4ng Binh, The Long Indochinese Night), and Jochen Gerz (The Invisible Monument, Germany), revealed the creative process that led to the idea of a Memorial to Slavery, the Shoah, Apartheid, colonization, and to its realization.<\/p>\n

Scientific department: Fran\u00e7oise Verg\u00e8s, an expert project manager for the Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery and Marie-H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Jouzeau, Head Heritage Curator with the City of Nantes\u2019s Department of Heritage and Archeology.<\/p>\n
