“Ten powerful women” 10 Mai 2013
Portraits of women struggling against colonial slavery
Square of the Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery, May 10-September 15, 2013
For the May 10 events the Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery welcomed an exhibit that paid homage to 10 women who fought colonial slavery. These portraits cannot do justice to the lives of the millions of enslaved women who participated in the resistance movements and contributed to the survival of their group and of society as a whole.
They are all « femmes courage » (brave women), des « femmes debout » (women standing tall) thanks to their knowledge and determination.
